Camden Military Academy |
Campus LifeA boarding school must provide more than just a quality education. The Academy is committed to providing the cadets with a positive environment in which to live and learn. Students are housed in five dormitories on campus. The young men live two or three to a room with hall latrine facilities. Each cadet rooms with another young man close to his age whenever possible.
Medical care is provided for cadets in the school's infirmary. Three school-based nurses and a local doctor provide routine medical care, and the Kershaw County Medical Center is only a five-minute drive from campus. Each cadet must have all immunizations required of all South Carolina students. Addtionally, each cadet is required to present a record of a complete physical examination upon entry. Cadets are motivated to do their best in all activities through the use of the merit system. Merits are awarded to cadets who show excellence in academics, athletics, other extracurricular activities, and personal conduct. This positive approach develops leadership and self-discipline. A young man soon learns that he is rewarded for his accomplishments rather than merely punished for his shortcomings. Punishment at Camden Military Academy is not extreme or arbitrary. When reported for an infraction, a cadet has a specified period of time to offer an explanation. If his explanation is not satisfactory, he will receive demerits, tours to be walked, or restrictions. The number of demerits, tours, or restrictions will be determined by the gravity of the offense.
